Elizabeth Porter brings to every performance an innovative blend of great music and crowd stopping vocals. With just her voice and a guitar in hand, she has proven to need nothing more. Elizabeth not only plays a wide range of songs from numerous genres, but continues to win fans over with her original music as well. She aims to cater to each crowds preference yet still brings her unique sound to every song she sings. Although her mid-western background leads her favor country and folk music, she has always been open minded to different music and gratefully takes any requests. Elizabeth's dedication to her fans and passion for music lights up the room every time she takes the stage.
Elizabeth began singing when she was in elementary school and her love for music only grew from there. She says "when I was sad... I would sing about it, when I was happy... I sang, and when I was tired... I listened to music". Elizabeth had many influences in her life of music, with the first being Reba McEntire. Although she was self determined to be a singer, she has had many people who have pushed her along the way. " The minute I opened my mouth and sang, I had family and friends planning my music career for me". Through the ever growing support of family and friends, Elizabeth began to prepare herself for a hopeful singing career. She performed countless solo's throughout schooling and was always involved in multiple chiors. To further educate herself she took music theory classes and ran the school sound system in high school. Elizabeth realized that having a good voice wasn't enough, so she began playing guitar and taking lessons. This showed to be a challenge, when she picked up a guitar and realized she could only play left handed. Again her onterage of fans jumped in and her high school calculous teacher convinced the school to buy her a left handed guitar. She says "I am truly blessed by the number of people who believe in me and when I sing, I sing for them".
Elizabeth decided that when she finished high school she would pursue her other passion, a degree in psychology. She did not want to put her music on the back burner for to long, so she completed both her bachelors and masters degree in five years. Elizabeth feels that music and psychology are not all that different, they both reach out to people and have the ability to bring about happiness. Elizabeth reports that her ultimate goal would be to make it in the music industry and save enough money to open up a school for troubled youth. "
Elizabeth sings a wide range of music and welcomes any request. The majority of the songs she sings are country and folk, but she does not limit herself to this genre. She will be completing her masters in counseling psychology as of May 2007 and persuing her music career full time. "I have been waiting for this moment my whole life and am excited to embark on this exciting journey".
